Today is Intern Appreciation Day, a great moment to highlight how students contribute to NEDCON every day. From HR to Finance and from Sales to Learning & Development: interns are working across various departments on a wide range of assignments this year. In this blog, four of our current interns share their experiences at NEDCON.
Working hands-on
For Bente, a second-year HRM student, this is her very first internship. She is fully involved in the HR department and gains a realistic view of the profession. From onboarding processes to contracts and leave regulations, she gets to experience it all. “I’m involved in everything within the department and included in all activities.”
Megan, a student in Learning & Development in Organisations, also works within HR and explores a variety of L&D topics. She experiences how learning and development are shaped within a large, international organization: “I don’t feel like an intern, but truly part of the team.”
Interns are given the space to actively contribute and share their own insights. They are involved in the daily work of colleagues and we believe it’s important that they genuinely feel part of the team.
Current topics in an international environment
Roos is in her final year of Marketing & Sales and combines sales with an international perspective. Her internship assignment focuses on cultural differences in international collaborations. A highlight for her was visiting the LogiMAT trade fair in Stuttgart. “That’s where everything I had learned so far came together in practice,” says Roos.
Mart, an intern in Finance & Control, is working on a highly relevant topic: data-driven management and data governance. He is developing an advisory report for NEDCON. “Data-driven management is becoming increasingly important for many organizations. That makes it interesting to explore this further within NEDCON,” says Mart.
At NEDCON, we embrace current topics across various fields. Interns have the opportunity to dive into relevant themes and actively contribute, aligned with their studies and personal interests.
Guidance and working environment
All interns share a common positive experience regarding the guidance and work environment. Each intern is supported by two supervisors: one for content-related guidance and one for school-related support. Roos finds this structure very valuable:
“The guidance is excellent. You have two supervisors, so there’s always someone to support you, for example when you get stuck in a project plan or deliverable.”
In addition, NEDCON organizes biweekly intern meetings where interns share experiences and focus on their studies and personal development. “You’re given a lot of responsibility, but you’re never on your own,” says Bente. Roos adds: “Despite the size of the company, the guidance feels very personal.” Megan is also positive about the support she receives: “I can always brainstorm with colleagues, and everyone is willing to help. I learn a lot in a short time.”
For Mart, the work atmosphere makes the biggest difference. The openness and collegiality ensure he quickly feels at home: “The friendly atmosphere and the willingness of colleagues to help make NEDCON a great place to do an internship.”
Learning for the future
An internship at NEDCON not only helps interns develop their skills, but also encourages them to think about their future. Whether it’s discovering a preference for working in an international organization, diving deeper into sales or confirming a career in L&D, the internship supports conscious next steps.
