Finding fulfillment as a Structural Engineer at NEDCON

19 March 2025

What makes working at NEDCON as a Structural Engineer so challenging and exciting? Frido Slag, one of our experienced Structural Engineers, shares his insights on contributing to innovative storage solutions. Whether you are a experienced professional, a recent graduate, or an intern, NEDCON offers you the opportunity to grow, to make an impact, and to be part of international projects in a dynamic work environment.

At NEDCON, everything revolves around innovative storage systems. As a Structural Engineer, you are involved from start to finish in designing these systems, which are built all over the world. But what does that look like in practice? Frido Slag takes us through his experience at NEDCON and explains why this role is about much more than just making calculations.

Involvement from concept to completion in global projects

When Frido joined NEDCON seven years ago, he quickly realized that working on storage systems is anything but monotonous. “At first glance, it might seem straightforward, designing and calculating warehouse racking and storage systems. But you will discover how complex and challenging it really is. Technology is constantly evolving, and no project is the same. That makes the work both exciting and diverse.”

As a Structural Engineer, you work on multiple projects simultaneously and remain involved throughout their entire lifecycle. Your role goes beyond calculations, you collaborate with designers, coordinate with colleagues, and communicate with clients and external partners. This broad responsibility ensures continuous learning and professional growth.

Learning from colleagues and advancing your career

One of the aspects Frido appreciates most about working at NEDCON is the teamwork. “We have a relatively small yet diverse team with a wealth of knowledge. I learn from my colleagues every day and I have the freedom to develop my own working style. Everyone supports each other in growing to the next level together.”

At NEDCON, professional development is a priority, whether you are a full-time employee or an intern. “As an intern or entry-level Structural Engineer, you are treated as a full-fledged member of the team,” Frido explains. “You can work on internal or external projects, help prepare and conduct test setups, and experience firsthand how calculations are applied in real-world scenarios. It is an ideal way to gain a clear understanding of the business.”

The most rewarding part of the job

One of the best moments in this line of work? The moment when a project is completed and you see your own design in real life. “Working visits to construction sites are often a highlight for me,” says Frido. “You witness how something you and your team spent months working on is actually being built. That brings a enormous sense of fulfillment.” Currently, NEDCON is involved in one of its largest projects yet and Frido is eagerly anticipating the final outcome. These kinds of projects foster a sense of pride, not just for him, but for everyone involved.

Why would you choose NEDCON?

At NEDCON, you will work on international, high-impact projects in an environment that values innovation and collaboration. “You have the opportunity to grow and work with the latest technologies and software, from in-house developed tools to FEM analysis and even manual calculations,” Frido explains. And beyond the work? “The atmosphere is great, with informal office chats, fun gatherings, and company events.”
