About NEDCON
NEDCON designs, produces, tests and builds warehouse racks. Since 2004, NEDCON has been an independent part of the international steel group voestalpine. The NEDCON head office is located in Doetinchem. In addition, we have our own production location in Pardubice (Czech Republic), in Shelbyville (USA) and there are NEDCON branches in various European countries, including Italy.
How does it work?
In the logistic sector automatized pick and place operations become more and more the standard. We have provided different customers in the past with several different types of configurations. System integrators have combined their automatic systems (robots) with our steel constructions. There are combinations of our systems and robots that have the tendency to vibrate.
Vibrations of the racking systems might cause stored products to move out of position. When this position shift occurs, the automatic crane might not be able to locate the product at the last known position, resulting in an error that needs to be manualy solved. This causes downtime in the warehouse, which negatively influences the performance of the system.
In 2017, a model has been developed to study the design parameters that influence these vibrations. This model was simplistic and gave reasonable results but did not correctly predict displacements of adjacent stored products. The next step is to add additional layers of complexity to this model so that it includes more effects and becomes a closer match to reality.
