Optimizing RFQ (Request For Quotation) processes using AI

Doetinchem, The Netherlands

Are you looking for a graduation internship where you can work on process improvement, automation, and AI? Do you want to see how RFQ (Request for Quotation) workflows impact the performance of a global technical company? Then this is the perfect opportunity for you!

About NEDCON
NEDCON designs, produces, tests and builds warehouse racks. Since 2004, NEDCON has been an independent part of the international steel group voestalpine. The NEDCON head office is located in Doetinchem. In addition, we have our own production location in Pardubice (Czech Republic), in Shelbyville (USA) and there are NEDCON branches in various European countries, including Italy, and in the United States.

The assignment
RFQ (Request for Quotation) processing is a critical, yet often manual and fragmented, process within our sales organization. Each sales department currently handles RFQs differently, leading to inefficiencies, inconsistencies, and limited scalability. With the increasing availability of intelligent automation and AI tools, we want to streamline and future-proof this process.

This thesis internship is designed to analyze the current RFQ processes across departments, identify the most suitable AI tools, and pilot a solution for one use case. The ultimate goal is to propose a more unified and scalable approach to RFQ handling across the company.

Who are we looking for?

  • A motivated graduation student (Bachelor or Master) in Industrial Engineering, Business Informatics, AI, ICT or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Interest in business process design, automation, and digital transformation.
  • Experience with workflow tools or Power Platform is a plus, but not required.

What does the assignment look like?

  • Map current RFQ workflows across multiple sales departments.
  • Identify overlaps, bottlenecks, and differences.
  • Evaluate state-of-the-art tools and platforms (e.g. Microsoft Power Platform, Copilot Studio, Salesforce AI, SAP BTP, external AI tools).
  • Assess requirements for data handling, compliance, integration, and user adoption.
  • Propose a common model or toolkit for RFQ processing.
  • Define use cases that can benefit most from AI-supported automation.
  • Select one department or one use case for implementation.
  • Build a pilot using chosen technology (with support from IT and business).
  • Document findings and results, and present recommendations for company-wide rollout.

What do we offer?

  • Challenging graduation internship. As an intern, you have responsibility and the opportunity to really make a difference with good ideas.
  • Internship allowance and lunch allowance.
  • Free fruit in our canteen every day.
  • Good supervision: one content supervisor and one process supervisor.
  • Fun and educational (graduation) internship for 38 hours per week. The working week ends on Friday at 3:00 PM, so you can enjoy the weekend for a long time.
