I am May Bergervoet, 22 years old and I am working as a Junior R&D Engineer in the Products & Technology department. We are responsible for all production quality checks, certifications of the pallet racks and we also perform tests for the calculation values that Structural Engineers use in our projects.

We have our own Test Department in Doetinchem. Here we perform both static and dynamic tests. Besides working a lot behind my computer, I also regularly visit the Test Department to check test setups and attend tests.

What does the department you work in look like?
I work in Design Principles & Prototyping, a sub-division of the Products & Technology department. As I mentioned, we conduct tests and evaluate those results to create calculation values for our Structural Engineers, and we perform production quality controls and project-specific testing.

In addition, our department deals with the certification of NEDCON's components and we conduct research into complex material properties such as fatigue of our thin-walled steel components. In doing so, we are supported by technical universities such as TU Dortmund and Büro Dr. Möll. This is how we ensure the quality and safety of our products.

What is your best memory of your time at NEDCON to date?
I designed a new dynamic test setup for our Test Department 2 years ago. In it, our steel components are loaded on High Cycle Fatigue by means of a servo-hydraulic cylinder. This is a big step in the research into fatigue of our steel components. The test setup is in place and is now running. And that is the best part of such a project: the innovation and the satisfaction when the design is realized and working.

Why would you advise someone else to work at NEDCON?
